For THELMA, For YOU! Part II

Hi BRIDGEZ ,
So today I decided to share a little information on what has kept me going through the hardest times.
The 3C’s of Motivation. These will help you stay committed and accomplish any goal you set your heart on. This was taught to me a few years ago but I added my personal twist to it.
The 3 C’s of Motivation
Confidence
Courage
Consistency
1. Confidence- While growing up I had lots of self confidence. Very few people believed that I had the ability or knowledge to make an impact or change lives. Today I am proving everyone wrong. I had to learn to step out on faith and learn to have confidence in myself. Confidence is the threshold that will bring everything together. Once you have confidence and begin to believe in yourself, you will soon start to see that people will believe in you. First have confidence in yourself and believers will follow.
“Insecurity will always rent the space it occupies, but confidence will own the building, and any other room it steps in.” – unknown
2. Courage - Having courage is something that I have struggled with in the past. It has a little to do with confidence. Once you begin to believe you are a young confident woman, the courage will follow. You will begin to be braver then your ever thought. You will learn to overcome obstacles that have once been holding you back. You may even have the power to encourage someone else to fight a particular battle. Courage is a mighty thing to own and once you have it, hold on tight and don’t let ANYONE take it away.
“Take the first step in faith. You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.”- MLK Jr.
3. Consistency- To sum it all up, you have to be consistent. Once you have your mind set on a goal, giving up should not be an option! Keep pushing and making strives towards your goal. No matter the number of times your try, a positive outcome will surely be the result. If your are learning throughout the process then you are able to progress!

Burrr… It’s Fall :(

It’s October everybody, and Fall has fallen on us like a sack of ice. It was FREEZING here in Jersey. But, it also means that we are in our second month of school. I don’t know about you guys, but it feels like it’s going by pretty fast for me. Before you know it, the PSATs will be here and Midterms and then FINALS!!! So, be sure that you’re prepared for the new subjects and all the new knowledge. Use it all to your advantage and appreciate your teachers. Soon, they’ll be writing you reccomendations for programs and colleges (and no one likes an angry reccomendation). :) Now, go take a deep breath and dive into your school work. There’s so much more to come… :(

For THELMA and For YOU! :)

As promised, every month we will have our special guest, Ms. Asiah Lemon, the creator of For THELMA, who will speak to all of you lovely ladies about things you simply need to hear. :)

Here’s her very first post! Enjoy!

HELLO BRIDGEZ,
As you all are beginning your last year of middle school, plenty of changes will begin. YOU WILL lose some friends, get into arguments and change your mind about plenty of things, but that’s okay, it’s the process of life. There will be many setbacks and obstacles that you will have to over come but the lesson learned in the end will be a blessing.  I just wanted you to know it’s never  to late to start planning your goals –START NOW DONT WAIT.
There is nothing more important than the process of  planning!  Just remember as you start this school year, the mark that you leave should be positive .  You always have someone looking up to you, whether its your little brother, sister, cousin, mother or father.  You HAVE AN EFFECT!  The goals you accomplish, the people you keep around you and the high standard that you keep are all what make you BEAUTIFUL.  Be yourself at all costs, the inner beauty will exceed over your outer beauty.
When you continuously  use your inner beauty, your process in planning your life goal will become that much easier.  The process that you are going through now is for a reason and once you hit your goal, your reward will be outstanding!  Just remember to stay happy within the process, so when you have bridges that you have to cross, you can glide over them smoothly because you kept a positive attitude.   Hopefully your reward will be more than you can imagine. So as you begin this school year remember to start planning your future, its never too late.
There is a song that speaks to my heart and I am sure it will help you as well: India.Arie- Beautiful Flower
Be Blessed, Be Inspired, Be Powerful

Why doesn’t that girl wear Silly Bandz?

I guess someone didn’t tell him that belted pants were out…

Really? A pink clip-on streak? What is she? Hannah Montana?

Happy Holiday!

How cool would it be if we ladies had a national holiday? Well, it can happen! Girls for a Change is a national organization that empowers girls to create social change, who has created a petition for the president to create the national holiday, Day of the Girl. If you would like to sign the petition and be one of the 439 people needed to get the petition ready, go here! If you would like to learn more about Girls for a Change, go here!

Also, Girls for a Change has sent me a list of facts about girls, and I will post one up every week. I’m sure many will pertain to the 7 topics of B.R.I.D.G.E.Z. :)

So, check it out!

And be sure to come back on Sunday for the weekly updates.

HAPPY LIVING!! :)

Scholarships for You!

I’m sure all of you are focused on school work, but there is always the reminder about college and scholarships. If your parents are anything like mine, they’ll find any time to tell you that YOU need to be getting money for college. Of course they’ll help out with the money they’ve been saving since you were born and yadda yadda yadda, but how many times have you heard the word “scholarship” and shudder? I’m right there with you, ladies.

It seems as though it would be hard to get scholarships because of the application process and the requirements, but there are plenty of scholarships that even more people haven’t heard of. Some of them are for girls only! Here’s a link to a list of scholarships that only women can apply for. Another great thing about unknown or unpopular scholarships is that there’s less competition. So, hurry and get more information today! :)

Today is September 11th, 2011. It has been 10 years since that tragic day of the World Trade Center attack. To all of those who lost loved ones, my condolences and prayers go out to you. To those of you who were volunteer fire fighters or policemen helping that day, I am thankful and proud to have such brave people in the country that I live in. I will pay my respects of those who lost their lives by being greatful for another day to breathe. Even though you may not be here physically, you will always be in our hearts.

God Bless America

We will NEVER forget

R- Respect/Responsibility

R-E-S-P-E-C-T. How many of you thought of the rest of the lyrics? Well, the song is great, but how many of you all know what Ms. Franklin was singing about? What is respect? Do we know what it means? Here is how we define “Respect”:
